Prior to co-developing Seven-Star, Inc., Alan founded and directed Event and Communications Co., an event and marketing group serving nonprofits, schools and progressive political parties. Through prior association, firsthand experience and research, ECCO developed marketing and advertising campaigns that gave shape and form to what is today called Community Marketing. By emphasizing grassroots event marketing, synergistic relationships between vendors and clients, and community development, Alan pioneered one of the largest progressive campaigns for what was then called “the alternative market.” ECCO Communication also produced art festivals across the Southwest, attracting well-known and local talent. ECCO Communication formed the strategic marketing operation for what would become Whole Life Expo’s national tour across twelve different states over the course of five years.
Mr. van de Kamp Grau’s client lists range from the Humane Society, to Borders Books, to the Natural Law Party’s bid at the 2000 presidential election. In 1995, he became Whole Life Expo’s National Marketing Director. Van de Kamp and Georgia Malki were brought in to take this once-a-year event to a twelve-stop national tour of major American cities.
The genesis of business for Mr. van de Kamp stems from the desire to create an experience that is both educational and profitable for him and others. He is attracted to complex subjects and by understanding and absorbing the parameters; he creates and markets an associated product or service. By the time van de Kamp was 37; he had created and developed 37 businesses. He started developing new businesses at the age of 12. He received his Bachelor’s from the University of Texas.

Born in Japan and an art student of University of Texas at El Paso, Mr. Grau went on to study yoga in India and later operating a yoga ashram in the U.S.A. for 5 years.
